RWS centerfire rifle cartridges in calibre .30-06

RWS centerfire rifle cartridges in calibre .30-06

The .30-06 is probably the most popular universal calibre, which has certainly killed all kinds of game on earth. The effective range of this cartridge, which can be equipped with RWS bullets from 9.7 g up to 13.0 g, is approximately 300 m.

The cartridge was developed in 1903 and received its final dimensions in 1906, the year it was also introduced as the ordinance cartridge in the USA ("Ball Cartridge, Caliber .30, Model of 1906"). The cartridge fast became very popular as hunting and sport-shooting cartridge.

The .30-06 Springfield can also be shot well by recoil-sensitive shooters.

RWS .30-06 Short Rifle - hunting ammunition for short barrels

More and more hunters have come to appreciate the advantages of a short and handy barrel. This trend is fueled by the increased use of silencers.

As is generally known, standard ammunition is formulated for use in the most commonly encountered barrel length of 600 mm. Firing standard ammunition out of 420 - 550 mm barrels has several disadvantages: Loss of velocity and energy, reduced effective range, dazzling muzzle flash, increased muzzle blast and accelerated silencer wear.

That is why RWS has developed a cartridge tailored specifically for use in short-barreled rifles. This means that shooting a short-barreled rifle no longer means giving up long-barrel performance.
