Trap

Weapons: permitted are all shotguns including their semi-automatic models, which do not exceed 12 gauge. Semi-automatic shotguns must be designed in a way, so that not more than one shotshell can be loaded into the magazine.
The use of pump-action guns (so-called pump guns) is forbidden.

Aiming position: within the preparation time (10 seconds) the shooter goes into pre-aiming position and calls for the targets/doublets, these are thrown with a varying time delay between 0 and 1 second.

Programme: International competitions for men are carried out with 150 clay targets (three series with 25 doublets each) and for women with 120 clay targets (three series with 20 doublets each) (=qualification).
After that, the six best shooters (only men – as of 2004 women were taken out of the Olympic programme) participate in the final with 25 doublets. In the final, hit equities are also settled with a so-called “shoot-off”.
With national tournaments bigger or smaller competitions programmes can be tendered. The achieved score decides on the respective ranking of the competitor.
Double trap has been an Olympic discipline since 1996. After the Olympic games 2004 in Athens, the discipline double trap for women was taken out of the Olympic programme.

Ammunition: Shotshells are being used, which have a case length of no more than 70 mm in fired condition.
The diameter of the shot may be 2.6 mm maximum. The weight of the shot load may not exceed 24.5 g.

Programme: 15 shots in 40 minutes. Before that, unlimited number of trial shots in 10 minutes.Clay targets: Targets with a diameter of 110 mm (+/-1 mm), a height of 25 – 26 mm and a weight of 105 g (+/-5 g) are being used.
The targets used for the official training day and the competition day must be identical.
The targets can be of different colour (for example black, white, yellow, orange), but they must have a well visible contrast to the background.

Distance, height and angle: The adjustment of the throwing distance, the throwing height and the angle setting of the targets is done according to one of altogether nine available schemes.
The throwing height – measured from the base level in a distance of 10 m from the top edge of the roof of the so-called “trap ditch”, varies between 1.5 and 3.5 m (+/-0,5 m). The flight distance is 76 m (+/-1 m).
The maximum throwing angle is 45 degrees to the left, respectively to the right.
The adjustment of the targets is done in the order: height, distance, angle.
